Fair Credit Act
The Fair Credit Reporting Act is taken from the United States Code, namesly 15 U.S.C. 1681 et seq. It is given its own codes known as the FCRA, beginning with section 601. In actuality, these statutes have a long leglislative history taken from different bills passed.
The purpose of the FCRA is, among other things, regulate fairness, accuracy and privacy with respect to consumer credit information. It provides a mechanism for correcting inaccurate information on the credit reports.
